About the Task Force

The Boone County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crimes Task Force is a member of Missouri Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) and began in 2007 as a way to more effectively combat and investigate Internet related crimes, particularly those which are perpetrated against children. Our service area includes all municipalities within Boone, Randolph, Audrain, Callaway, Cole, Cooper, Howard, and Moniteau Counties and is currently comprised of members from the Boone County Sheriff’s Office, Boone County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Missouri University Police Department, and Federal Bureau of Investigation.

We investigate criminal complaints for which the alleged crime occurred through the use of the Internet or other electronic means and conduct proactive investigations concerning online crimes against children. Both investigative and digital forensic related resources and training are offered to law enforcement agencies within our designated service area. Forensic related resources provided include on-scene triage during evidence seizure, initial response to business and government network compromise, and the analysis of electronic media such as computers, mobile devices, and storage media.

The primary goal of the Boone County Sheriff’s Office Cyber Crimes Task Force is to prevent victimization by cyber criminals and to instill preventive measures into members of the general public which may otherwise be susceptible to such crime. These methods include educational presentations, proactive investigations, and the use of specialized investigative techniques which are more likely to result in securing evidence needed for the successful conviction of identified perpetrators.

We Are a Law Enforcement Agency

The mission of the Boone County Sheriff's Office Cyber Crimes Task Force is to investigate and arrest individuals who have violated criminal law, specifically pertaining to crimes against children to include child exploitation and the possession or distribution of child pornography. We do not conduct or assist with private investigations, digital forensic examinations, or computer malware/virus removal.
